Panama to host 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup |
IBAF Baseball Tournament will start at the end of September
The Executive Committee of the IBAF today awarded the hosting rights of the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup to Panama. The event rights were also contested by baseball powerhouse Venezuela, however the executive committee gave Panama the opportunity after careful deliberation and finally a vote of the committee. Panama's Ruben Cardenas, General Director of the Sports Ministry led the presentation to the IBAF Executive Committee. The event is slated to include 16 competing teams and will be held in the last week of September and the first week of October. Panama City will be the primary city for the event, and also the host of Pool A, while Aguadulce, Cocle; Santiago, Veragues; and Chitre, Herrera will play host to Pool B. "Panama's bid looks very promising for the event, and there is no doubt they will be an excellent host and provide a memorable experience for the 2011 edition IBAF Baseball World Cup," stated IBAF President, Riccardo Fraccari from Havana.
